This class project was a three piece collection in creating a menu, trifold, and table tent for a fictional restaurant called Pasta Amore. They were a family focused restaurant that was indicated within their mission statement "To provide a warm atmosphere for your family where we can share the traditional cuisines of Italy. Our food will always be fun, fresh and filled with love.” I have redesigned this project a total of three times because different classes required this project to be done. With this final attempt, I allowed myself to breakout creatively and go with the flow. I chose the chalkboard background as one of the main aspects because it has a nice texture and it reminded me of signs you see outside displaying daily specials and how well used it is. In the menu, I wanted to represent the Italian colors without it being overbearing on the eyes, therefore I chose to color the dot decorations framing the sections that correspondent with the Italian flags color scheme. This idea was more difficult to transfer it to the trifold take out menu and I chose to leave the dot decoration white. I wanted the text to be visible against the chalkboard. No matter what color combination I chose, the text would easily get lost in the background. I finally came to two decisions, red front on the lighter background or a lighter font on a red background. I chose red font on a lighter background because it felt more open, family friendly, and easier to read if the lights are dimmer. The latter choice was also nice to look at, however it felt closed off and intimate. Finally, the font on the table tent was easier to read because it didn’t need as much information so it was legible against the chalkboard background. I also chose to go with a list of desserts because the consumer can easily look at that menu should they chose to have dessert and its more efficient for the staff because they don’t have to go back and forth getting the dessert menu and have more time to focus on other customers. The tools used for all three pieces was Adobe InDesign for the layouts and Photoshop for cutting out images to place on the items and the mockups.
