Fire Safety Billboard

This Project was inspired by the numerous happening on the west coast. The event is very close to where I live and I had just learned a new art technique in Adobe Illustrator by making triangles (mostly), going over an image, and then color the shapes using the color of the image within that shape. I thought this would be an application to an image of fire because it can capture the chaos that can be found in fire. From there, I exported the fire into Photoshop and continued to create the design. Originally, I had a firefighter on the other half of the image and within that, it faded into the wildlife image seen now. The problem here was that the image of the firefighter was getting lost and I placed the image of the wildlife across the whole background. My next obstacle was to fade out the image just so the the text didn’t get lost but didn’t lose the color and definition of the wildlife scene. Tools used here was the gradient tool, the eraser tool, and blending modes. I chose yellow for the text because it stood out against the green and connected with the fire. By bolding and underlining “Don’t let it be yours”, it creates an impact and really sends the message out to the viewers to importance and severity of the message. This is also applied to “Fire Restrictions” as the next thing that needs to have attention and then backed by the symbols. This design also shows great balance using color: the heat of the fire in contrast to the cool color of the wildlife scene. Finally, a smaller problem was not giving the text enough margin so it would get cut off on the billboard and the alignment of the starting text.
